"Why did you shave your head?" is a question I hear often. I have shaved my head many times. Background information: I grew up in Brazil where the formula for beauty is juicy thighs, small waistline and long and straight luscious hair - none of which I possess. God had messed up my formula, is what I thought, as other kids called me 'Meduza'.
So I had to re-invent my concept of beauty. And the desire to shave my head to symbolically pursue my own version of beauty was a powerful act. As a result, I have realized how shaving my head is also a strong practice of letting go of what others think of me (big people pleaser here!) and going inward to listen to who I am and how I want to manifest in this world.
The last few times I shaved my head it has also led me to find inner confidence and courage to do what I want to do and be who I want to be. Shaving my head symbolically gives me the strength to love myself even when my formula does not fit what society tells me beauty is. I redefine my concept of beauty every time I shave my head!
Let's open up and redefine beauty?!?
